Mark Veevers has his workshop and retail space at Gallery33 in Sheffield with Adele Taylor.
He says "I have several passions in my life. The main one is designing and making jewellery using a variety of metals both precious and non precious. I am rarely happier than when I am at the bench and immersed in my work. My other passions are also influences or sources of inspiration and ideas which form underlying themes for my work.
I enjoy motorcycling and recently achieved a first grade passes in the I.A.M advanced motorcycling and car driving tests. One of the more significant elements that influenced my earlier work and which to some extent still does, stems from this and this is an interest in road markings, direction signs and abstract markings and symbols. I became interested in patterns which were composed of simple markings such as dots and dashes, circles and triangles. It isn’t just those shapes but the shapes of the spaces between them, the negative spaces that occur when shapes are placed next to each other that I find interesting. The shapes of the negative spaces govern the arrangement and juxtaposition of the parts and creates an aesthetic which, when carefully considered is pleasing to the eye.
Another passion for me is walking in the open countryside. I find gates and broken down fences fascinating and have recently produced some new work based loosely on farmers wonky fences and styles and gates with curious self closing mechanisms such as a rock with a hole in hanging on a chain which automatically closes the gate. These influences combine and mix with each other leading to work which is often in the form of One Off pieces where the outcome is a product of the decisions made in the heat of the moment at the bench. "
